The Portal Dolmen is a type of tomb that is made using two tall portal stones and covered with a large capstone. There are roughly 180 of these portal dolmens distributed throughout Ireland. Some of the capstones weighed as much as 100 tons, so it really is a marvel that these tombs were created without modern mechanical engineering. With the limited resources of earth, stone, oxen and wood, it begs the question, what engineering methods did they use to create these architectural structures?
