Our Story

Richard Murphy is an Irish designer based between Galway and London. After graduating from Goldsmiths University, Richard worked in various areas of the fashion industry before deciding to start his own brand.

Richard’s ambition is to create a brand with genderless designs that are inclusive of everyone’s gender expression and identity. He found that when looking for jewellery for himself, it often leaned more towards masculine or feminine with few pieces falling in between. He wants to allow for the subtle nuances between femininity and masculinity to coincide in one piece as opposed to being completely separated into different categories. We all have a unique style that is drawn more towards masculine or feminine, regardless of our gender identity and imposing the categories of “man” and “woman” on something like jewellery only stops the person from discovering more about their own sense of style and self. Richard wants the wearer to be the one that picks the piece that best represents them and makes them feel confident in who they are.

Richard is constantly inspired by the prehistoric Irish archaeology and celtic myth that he spends his time researching. His work translates from one medium to another in a process that moves from art to design. First starting off with quick sketches of inspiration, followed by large scale charcoal drawings that question life and death, mythology and reality, and the secrets of the afterlife. He then creates headpieces that bring otherworldly gods and creatures into 3D beings and give form and colour to prehistoric stone carvings. These are complemented by a diverse collection of jewellery that delves deeper into the history of neolithic astronomers who were able to observe, depict and hypothesize about the moon, the sun, and their motions, through ritualistic stone carvings and megalithic structures.

From the deep blacks of charcoal and rhodium to the luminosity of gold and silver, his work provides a stark contrast between light and dark, representational of the unknown emerging into the light. Allowing us to catch a glimpse of that which is hidden from us.
