The sculptures and religious symbology quickly turn to crucifixes when Christianity arrived in Ireland in the 5th century. Before this, most people believed in pagan gods. Monasteries were erected and we a see a completely new wave of architecture. Depictions of religious events are carved into stone within the shape of a crucifix, and what were once more primitive drawings with ambiguous faces and beings, are now intricate detailed representations of people.
